Nefertari, also known as Nefertari Meritmut, lived from 1302-1255 BCE and was a Kemetic queen and the first of the Great Royal Wives (or principal wives) of Ramesses the Great. She is one of the best known queens, among such women as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, and Hatshepsut, and one of the most prominent not known or thought to have reigned in her own right.
Her lavishly decorated tomb, QV66, is the largest and most spectacular in the Valley of the Queens (Also one of the most renovated meaning repainted). Ramesses also constructed a temple for her at Abu Simbel in Nubia next to his colossal monument.
Ramesses himself wrote:
"My love is unique - no one can rival her, for she is the most beautiful woman alive. Just by passing, she has stolen away my heart."
"In 2023, Christopher Ehret reported that the physical anthropological findings from the “major burial sites of those founding locales of ancient Egypt in the fourth millennium BCE, notably El-Badari as well as Naqada, show no demographic indebtedness to the Levant”. Ehret specified that these studies revealed cranial and dental affinities with "closest parallels" to other longtime populations in the surrounding areas of Northeastern Africa “such as Nubia and the northern Horn of Africa”.
